With more than 40 years of experience in development communications and corporate public relations, Ms. Romero’s career has spanned information, education and communications (IEC) work with international organizations, the government, the academe, and the private sector. She has extensive experience in journalism, event management, media relations and corporate communications. These skills and specializations were honed during her active involvement in management consulting and as Manila-based correspondent of three regional trade publications.
From 1984-94, Ms. Romero. wrote articles and special reports on information technology (IT), productivity and quality as a journalist here and abroad. She covered the IT and business beats, focusing on issues of and investment opportunities in the local IT and telecommunication industries for the Asian Computerworld, IT Asia and PC Week Asia. In 1985-86, she was posted in Singapore as News / Sub Editor of the Asian Computerworld, Southeast Asia edition.
Mrs. Romero left her government job in 1991 to do freelance consulting. A year after, she set up Strategic Organizational Services Philippines In (STRATOS Inc) starting with four accounts. In 2014, it officially changed its name to Stratos Public Relations Consultancy. Stratos has serviced 200+ firms since it started 28 years ago. Ms. Romero has closed down Stratos last year and has reverted to being an independent PR consultant and trainer.
To this day, Ms. Romero is involved with the image-building projects and activities of her alma mater. She is an active member of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) and the UP College of Mass Communication (UPCMC) for the last 35 years, serving in various capacities. She has been a two-term president of the UPCMCAA and continues to serve in its present board. She was a two-term member of the Executive Board of the UPAA. She was also President and later on Chair of the UP Delta Lambda Sigma Alumni Association (UPDLSAA). Ms. Romero is now a member of the present board. She is also a member of the board of the UPCMC Foundation and a member of the National Communications Committee of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines.
