Bong is an active media, advertising and PR practitioner, advocacy stalwart, marketing communications educator and journalist rolled into one. He has worked with multinational advertising agencies like J. Walter Thompson, Ace Saatchi, DYR Alcantara and Campaigns and Grey. He now works as Communications Consultant of ABS-CBN Corporation, SkyCable, Dentsu-Aegis Network, government projects among others, after retiring as Vice President and Head of the Corporate Communications Division of ABS-CBN.
Bong was president of Campaigns Advocacy & PR, Inc. (CAPRI) for 18 years, the social marketing and below-the-line arm of Campaigns and Grey, and chairman of the communication arts department of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) for 17 years. He was the 2002 Philippine Marketing Association’s Agora Awardee for Outstanding Achievement in Marketing Education. In 2003, he was recognized with The Tomasian Alumni (TOTAL) award in the field of media and communication.
Bong writes a weekly business and life column in The Philippine Star, entitled Commonness, which tackles and analyzes current events that impact on the Philippine business and life and reviews business-related books. Commonness has won the Catholic Mass Media Award (CMMA) as Best Business column three times.
Bong got his academic grounding at the UST (AB Communication Arts) and the MBA program of the Ateneo de Manila Graduate School of Business. He has observed and trained at the Communications Center of the Johns Hopkins University in Maryland; the Center for Advertising Services in New York City; Academy for Educational Development (AED), George Washington University, APCO and Porter Novelli, all in Washington, D.C.
Bong was the president of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Philippine Chapter in 2003 and 2004, and was the IABC Regional Director for Asia-Pacific in 2007. At present, he is a member of the Board of Governors of the Manila Overseas Press Club (MOPC), a Trustee for Academe of the Advertising Foundation of the Philippines (AFP), Council Member of the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT), member of the International PR Association (IPRA) and President of the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) in 2014-2015; 2015 – 2016.
Bong represents the Philippines in the ASEAN PR Network (APRN). He is a Certified PR (CPR) practitioner given by the professional regulations commission of the government of Indonesia, and an accredited in PR (APR) bestowed by PRSP.
