Red Samar is a communications professional with a total of 25 years of experience in the field of media, communication and public affairs.
He is currently working as the communications manager of JG Summit Holdings, Inc., one
of the most diversified and largest Philippine conglomerate with business interests in food manufacturing (Universal Robina Corporation), air transportation (Cebu Pacific), real estate and property development (Robinsons Land), banking (Robinsons Bank), and petrochemicals (JG Summit Petrochemical Corporation).
A journalism graduate from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Red started his career in the field of newspaper publishing working as an editor at the Manila Bulletin, the Philippines’ oldest existing and most widely circulated English daily broadsheet for close to two decades. He pioneered and helped set up in the information and communications technology (ICT) section of the paper and was one of the first journalists in the industry to comprehensively cover the ICT scene. He also helped co-found the Philippines’ first ICT press organization called CyberPress Philippines (Information Technology Journalists Association of the Philippines or ITJAP).
In 2010 Red left the media profession and joined the corporate world to become the corporate brand & communications head of Bayan Telecommunications, Inc. (Bayantel), one of the leading telecom players in the country at that time. His stint with the company have exposed him and opened up new opportunities and challenges to handle and excel in the field of corporate affairs and communication in several companies such as Sky Cable Corporation, ABS-CBN Mobile of the Lopez Group of Companies, and in Globe Telecom of Ayala Corporation.
