With over 30 years of progressive responsibility in large international, multinational and national organizations for such areas as corporate communications, public relations, marketing, brand management, corporate social responsibility, corporate governance, risk management, events management, publications, speech craft and general office management, Mr. Richard P. Burgos exhibits a keen appreciation of the role of effective communications and collaboration at the processor, individual contributor, team and leadership levels within a connected, globalized environment. He brings this appreciation to create added value for the organizations he works for, including the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, an international research for development center based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, where his personal network yielded grants worth over USD 7 million for 5 years.
At Enchanted Kingdom, he was responsible for enhancing the guest experience in the park to drive attendance and revenues and to market the experience to both local and foreign visitors. At IBM, he drove media and analyst relations programs in the 6 ASEAN countries. Earlier in IBM Philippines, was responsible for enhancing and protecting IBM’s brand image among various stakeholders through external, organizational, and client communications as well as advocacy and community work. He also worked for organizations such as HP, Sun Microsystems and for the Philippine civil service as Chief of Staff of the Secretary of Science and Technology. A certified IBM media coach, he is an active member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA) where he is an international juror in the IPRA Golden World Awards for excellence in PR practice, and a 2-term past national chairman of IPRA Philippines.
He began his career as a Spanish language instructor at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in Bacolod City. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts major in Philosophy (Classical) from Seminario Mayor Recoletos in Baguio City and pursued graduate studies at the University of the Philippines Los Banos (Development Communications) and at the Escuela Diplomatica in Madrid, Spain (International Studies). He completed a Special Executive Masters Programme MBA organized by UK-based Metropolitan School of Business and Management in 2014. Off-hours, he enjoys heritage tours, music and the arts. He is a volunteer for Bahay Tuluyan, an NGO working for the welfare of street children and supports programs to help blind children acquire computer literacy skills through Resources for the Blind Inc. (RBI) and Adaptive Technology for Rehabilitation, Integration and Empowerment of the Visually Impaired (ATRIEV).
