ROMEO P. VIRTUSIO started his PR career at J. Walter Thompson, Lexington International, Public Relations, Inc. He began as a junior PR account manager. He rose through the ranks as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Lexington International, the PR company established by J. Walter Thompson. During his 22.5 years stint at J. Walter Thompson, he handled a wide range of MNC accounts, including Boeing, Lufthansa, United Airlines, and Bayer. Romy also managed the local accounts of Meralco, DBP, Shell, and Pepsi Cola. He led the team that saw the rise of Jollibee as a household byword, seeing it through the crisis and challenges of the infamous "earthworm" scare at Jollibee.
In 1989, Romy organized his own PR company, Virtusio PR International, Inc. The Company has been in operation for 32 years now and it handles local and foreign accounts.
Aware of PR's absence as a course offering in Philippine colleges and universities, he initiated projects to address this void. Through the IPRA Philippine Chapter, PR seminar workshops were conducted by active PR veterans for young Filipino PR practitioners. In 2001, Romy organized the first Philippine PR Summit series for PR practitioners to have a collegial forum to discuss PR concerns, PR's role in the country, and exposure to international PR experts in various fields. He also published the Philippine PR book, "How to Make it in PR."
As a member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), he served as Council Member for the Philippines of IPRA and Juror IPRA Golden World Awards PR competitions, (London), 2001. Romy was the recipient of a Special President's Award from IPRA in 2001.
He promoted the IPRA Golden World Awards in the Philippines. He encouraged ABS-CBN Foundation to submit its entry for its Bantay Bata program, for which it won its first international award in 2000. Romy also served as a committee member during the crafting of the New Millennium Vision of IPRA.
He served as National Chair of IPRA Philippine chapter for two terms, 1997-1998, 1999-2000 for which he received a Certificate of Appreciation for his exemplary service from IPRA National Chair Renato E. Nieva.
